Kilta Rosina wrote:Hello
I joined Dust on its launch day. I'm pretty new here and still unsure what I'm doing. I have never felt so new and lost in an MMO for YEARS.
A lil about myself, I'm a 28 year old female with a vast mmo/gaming history. I played 30 mmorpg (not including eve)
I do have a history in playing fps having played Halo (which Dust reminds me of). Now I'll like to state I'm enjoying myself. I typically suck in fps but I still have fun, and would like to improve.
Second this is just a test character as I'm unsure what to do.
Welcome, it's good to have some fresh blood to slaug- err..I mean guide!
Kilta Rosina wrote:Can someone care to give tips on what to do?
Like how skills work
The best way to set skill like do I go 5/5 then move on? or do I put point or to in everything I would and slowly go 5/5
How gear works and mods work in this game to better my survivability.
And general fps tips to simply do better.
I'm completely out of my element. I did read the newbie guide but still unsure of things
When you do battles, you gain skillpoints, short for SP after the battle ends. You also gain passive SP every three seconds or so, and once you have enough SP you can level up a skill to the next level. Before that though, you have to buy the skillbook which allows you to start leveling it up, which you have to buy with ISK(InterStellar Kredits), the in-game currency. There is also the possiblity to activate passive and active boosters to increase the amount of SP you earn passively and actively, depending on what kind of boosters you buy. These are for AUR(Aurum, aka gold) only, which can be purchased with real money and they do not last infinitely. When you level up a skill with the SP you have accumulated, you unlock new skills, items and sometimes increase the effectiveness of certain items or boost your passive stats, so maxing them to 5/5 is always the best. Press triangle while hovering over a skill to see what the skills actually do.
As for how suits work, basically all ground items(ones used for ground combat, I do not use vehicles so I know nothing abuot those) are divided into four categories. Weapons, grenades equipment and modules. Weapons and grenades are the obvious thing, equipment is a piece of item you have to select seperately in order to use them. The current equipment you can have in this game are remote explosives(blows up stuff), drop uplink(gives a mobile spawnpoint), repair tool(heals people), nanite injector(revives dead people), nanohive(resupplies ammo and grenades) and active scanner(scans the area to reveal enemies). Modules are modifications you put on your suit which improve passive stats, like hacking speed, total stamina, weapon damage etc.
All these things take Powergrid(PG) and Central Processing Unit(CPU) power in various amounts, so the key is to select the right combination of weapons, grenades, equipment and modules to have the maximum combat effectiveness while still keeping your suit in it's CPU and PG requirements.
Kilta Rosina wrote:I also have a question too the eve players mostly, do you feel that people see dust as a stand alone from eve?
Do you think people misunderstand that eve and dust are connected?
I saw a fight last night where two people actually called an eve player elitist when he was trying to help others. Making a note that we dust players are in fact playing eve just in a different way. They scoffed at him acting like Dust and Eve are not interconnected.
also is it wise to alienate the EVE players with the "COD" mindset as he put it?
I only seek to be decent at Dust, have fun and be a decent person on the community.
People have conflicted opinions about this, but the general opinion(mine included) is that DUST 514 and EVE Online are one and the same, but only designed for different people. And most of the time the talk in local is less than intelligent, so the best course of action to deal with the arguments in local is to just ignore them. And can you clarify about the COD mindset? It could mean anything from caring more about your stats than helping the team to whining about every single thing that kills you as being overpowered.
Kilta Rosina wrote:Ninja edit, I also notice that if I use this site on the ps3, I can't log in. It stated there is a 404 error. I mainly use my ps3 as I need to borrow a laptop, is there a fix for this soon? or a way to access this via the ps3? I had very little issues using most forums on my ps3.
I have tried using the forums aswell on the PS3, but I have the same problem. The best thing you should do is contact customer support.
If you have any further questions or need clarification on my answers, feel free to ask! I'll be more than happy to reply them. |

I'm gonna start over and try my luck and Hope I do well.
Also can someone explain to me the races and bloodlines? That confused me most.
I'm unsure which to play XD
I wouldn't say that the Gallente and Minmatar are the good guys, especially after the recent events in Caille and Colelie(just search for Midular shooter and you'll know). I'll give a brief rundown of all the races.
Gallente are the liberal guys, who believe in the freedom of speech, free marketing, freedom of choice and all that stuff. Their ships and suits on armor
Caldari are the exact opposite of Gallente, very strict and ruled by megacorporations. They are all about business and making ISK. Their suits and vehicles focus on shields.
The Minmatar are tribal people who were once slaves for the Amarr. They're pretty much a group of different tribes with very tribelike traditions. Their ships and suits are designed to be jacks of all trades, able to do a little bit of everything.
The Amarr are a very strict religious race and also the largest one. They believe in converting others to their religion very aggressively, and also do slavery. Their empire is ruled by an Emperor who has nearly total control of everything. Their ships and suits focus on having lots and lots and lots of armor and very heavy hitting weapons.
As for the individual bloodlines, looking through them in Evelopedia will give you more info on them. And at the momment the races affect nothing but your general personality and your starting suits. |
